Gunner Rivers Commits to N.C. State | Following in Father Philip Rivers' Footsteps (2026)

Get ready for an exciting journey as we dive into the world of high school sports and witness the legacy of a football dynasty!

The Rivers Dynasty Continues

St. Michael's junior quarterback, Gunner Rivers, has made a bold move by committing to N.C. State, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Philip Rivers. But here's where it gets intriguing: will Gunner be able to live up to his dad's stellar college career?

Philip Rivers, a Wolfpack icon, left an indelible mark on N.C. State with his impressive stats: 13,484 passing yards and 95 touchdowns over four years. In his final season, he achieved an astonishing 72% completion rate, throwing for 4,491 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Gunner, standing at 6'3.5" and weighing 205 lbs, has already made his mark at St. Michael. In just three years, he has accumulated an impressive 10,200 passing yards, ranking fifth on the Alabama High School Athletic Association's career list. He's also joined an elite group of just 10 AHSAA quarterbacks who have thrown over 100 touchdown passes in their careers, with 111 touchdowns to his name so far.

As a junior, Gunner completed an impressive 237 of 343 pass attempts, totaling 3,176 yards and an astounding 46 touchdowns. His interception rate is remarkably low, with only 5 picks. He's led St. Michael to the Class 4A state semifinals for two consecutive seasons and has been a finalist for the 4A Back of the Year award both times.

Gunner's talent hasn't gone unnoticed by recruiters. He ranked third in the final AL.com Best in Bama recruiting rankings, which evaluates all high school football recruits in Alabama regardless of classification. He's also a 4-star prospect according to 247Sports and currently the No. 4 recruit in Alabama for the Class of 2027, ranking 10th nationally at his position.

But here's the twist: Gunner isn't the only St. Michael star heading to N.C. State. Senior running back Noah Moss signed with the Wolfpack in December, adding to the school's growing talent pool at N.C. State.

Under Gunner's leadership, the Cardinals have an impressive 31-8 record in his three years as starting quarterback, including a 6-3 playoff record. These nine playoff games are a significant milestone in St. Michael's history.

As we eagerly await Gunner Rivers' college career, the question remains: Can he surpass his father's legacy? Will he write his own chapter in the Rivers dynasty?

What do you think? Will Gunner Rivers make a name for himself, or will he always be compared to his legendary dad? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
